Liturgy: Prayer of a Holly
Father and sustainer,
Grant me the eyes to see the joy of each rising sun and shooting star;
the strength to dance in every storm;
the stamina to sway in the warmth of the wind.
You adorn me in your majestic glory, the red radiance of your righteousness.
Turn your light upon me. I long to behold your face.
With every curve and branch and leaf, my arms reach up to taste your sustaining sun.
Strengthen me with your all sufficient power.
Prepare my cracks and crevices to hold your beloved vagabonds; the spiritual seekers; the tellers of truth.
I am not my own and may be struck down by fire.
Even then, let my decay glorify your name so that all might say, “Look! There was a holly who reflected the love of the Creator!”
Let your mercy fall upon me like the rain that collects in my roots.
Yours is the beautifully broken world.
I eagerly await your redemptive return when my brothers and sisters will declare the glory of your Holy Name.
In adoration and dependence,
Amen.
